To spend the calmest time of year in peace

To sleep awhile unwittingly6 O$ { Y8 z2 C$ X
Dreaming of youth' m, K2 D! t% v: H9 J6 X* P
Against the brown wooden partition

The somewhat distressed humming/ g# H4 K. w u* q
The old country house& G, a, w+ N9 l: n. T' b
May no longer be there
' ]+ s& t3 ?5 o7 W# M* H With pinks growing slowly on the windowsill
' o! p6 P. z. r Late winter snows float down twilight by twilight/ T3 q" k) ^* L- i/ b3 e
To be heard in the solitude against the glass
' X% S8 x) b. ?3 e W! | And through the window illuminated by snowflakes
! U* U8 Z5 M$ n The old tree's crotches seem swarthier7 j; i6 ]; p: y, ?2 m8 u3 ]
And the sound of melting snow falling from the eaves5 b& z) U3 S4 U
Keeps me long from sleep ] J4 F0 z) L) `, s5 Z7 i7 M' A
And in my youth
; L+ s+ F J: @/ b$ b! h I did not sleep till Mother0 [; ?! Z, Q2 h7 N
Having slaved daylong6 c& x: i/ [( E& m$ Q4 |0 x6 Z
From one room to the next* y5 [& V7 Y& u1 w2 P4 g) j
Tucked in my coverlet
# h7 ^$ k4 ^ b6 Q7 u# \* m So the snowflakes gradually tuck in memory of the past5 W: V' x6 M+ H$ ^) @
And I faintly hear
8 Y" _$ S9 V- h5 a& ] Twigs fall
' d1 _& B% C2 @0 N# D4 _8 Y* V) | And the kettle singing/ ]" U9 s- N- Y4 d4 O R
On the warm fire
